RETURN OF NIA UNDER DA CONTROL AUGURS WELL FOR FARMERS, SAYS BONGBONG


Presidential aspirant Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. on Tuesday backed the proposed switch of the Nationwide Irrigation Administration (NIA) below the jurisdiction of the Division of Agriculture (DA) saying that the transfer is the suitable step in direction of serving to Filipino farmers enhance their crop yields.

Marcos identified that the DA, being the first company dealing with the agriculture sector, has all of the pertinent knowledge, packages, gear, and specialists.  He added that each companies can be higher capable of fulfill their mandates and ship higher providers to Filipino farmers if their program methods and targets are aligned.

“The DA and NIA have a typical goal of guaranteeing meals safety in our nation and transferring the NIA to the DA might improve meals manufacturing nationwide. Their built-in packages and interventions would develop the agriculture sector which is essential to our financial improvement,” he added.

The NIA is a government-owned and managed company (GOCC) created below Republic Act (RA) 3601 and was below the Workplace of the President (OP) when it was created in 1963.

It was transferred to the Division of Public Works, Transportation, and Communication in 1972, and was connected to the Division of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and DA in 1987.  In 1992, the NIA returned to the OP however was transferred once more to the DA. In 2014, NIA was in a while moved to the OP by Govt Order No. 165.

Final April, Agriculture Secretary William D. Dar requested the switch which he stated, would help higher integration and improve coordination to maximise out there sources to enhance the productiveness of Philippine agriculture.
